Ara Taiohi 'Involve' National Youth Development Conference Mon 14th - Wed 16th August 2018
Glenn was asked to give one a keynote address at Ara Taiohi 'Involve' National Youth Development Conference. His was a unique blend candid insight, honest commentary, and poetry - in this case, personal letters he has written to some of the extraordinary young people he has gotten to know through his work as a youth worker and GP. Schools Programme
Accompanied by his foot-high totems of NZ historical figures, and inspired by the likes of Robbie Burns and Te Rauparaha, Glenn used song and poetry to explore our history with Years 7-10 and 9-13 students. You can see a video of one of his performances here.
Festival Gala Night - True Stories Told Live: The Heart Of The Matter
Glenn was part of a select lineup of the Festival's guest authors showcasing their story-telling chops, each delivering a seven-minute true story, propless and scriptless, inspired by the theme “The Heart of the Matter”. Check out the video here.
Matters Medical
What is it like to work in the medical profession where so much is often at stake? And what place does creative writing play in managing the weight of expectation and responsibility? Glenn, with doctor David Galler and physiotherapist Sue Wootton talked about life at the often fragile edge, in conversation with Leanne Pooley.

Creative Writing Workshop: Glenn shared some of the skills he has developed in his own writing and give tips on how to get your poetry or prose walking off the page. Participants worked on a piece of their own creative writing, such as one or two poems or a short piece of prose.
Oral Poetry & Totems: Glenn took his foot- high totems of New Zealand historical figures with him to Dunedin and used them to explore Māori and Pākehā oral poetic forms, inspired by mōteatea and haka. In his words: “It’ll be like some sort of poetry Tupperware party".
